Our School Teams
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
In our school, every child is a member of one of four school teams. These are named after the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Matthew (the red house)
Mark (the green house)
Luke (the yellow house)
John (the blue house)
Our school house points are used as our whole school reward system and is aimed at encouraging positive behaviour and encouraging a team ethos across the school and will allow children of all ages to work together, towards a common goal. Learning to work as part of a team is important as it helps children to develop their social skills, such as patience, empathy, communication, respect for others, compromise and tolerance. It also helps them to develop confidence in themselves and trust in other people.
All children from Nursery to Year 6 are allocated a house and any siblings are placed in the same house as each other to make it easier for families.
Every half term, house points are added on a weekly basis. The weekly running totals are then shared with the whole school during our weekly, Friday, Celebration Collective Worship time. At the end of each half term, the winning house wins a house reward e.g. to watch a movie with popcorn, extra long afternoon playtime together, etc.
The house points in our school library, where children can see the running totals for each house, their house team list and reminders of how they can earn team points for their house. Children earn house points for things like:
* Keeping our Wreay Church of England School rules
* Showing our Christian values
* Working hard in class and on homework tasks
* Helping others
* Problem solving
Our Three Wreay School Rules are:
1. Be respectful and responsible.
2. Be kind and caring.
3. Be a good listener and do what is expected of you.
Very Important Person (VIP)
Each child has the opportunity to be year group ‘Very Important Person’ or VIP for a whole week, every school year! This is a privileged role that allows them freedoms such as wearing non-uniform for the week, lining up first for playtime and being special helpers around school. The children also bring in an item to share with their classmates for a special show and tell discussion. At the end of the week they are presented with a certificate, written by their classmates, that recognises why they are ‘Unique and a gift from God’ to our school community.
Star of the Week
Children are nominated by members of staff to receive a certificate that recognises their efforts during lessons or when they actively use our Christian Values.
Head's Award
This is award is given to recognise children who have worked hard over a significant period of time to achieve their goal.
